Zenit - Korolyov's Legacy

Tyneside, UK
2024 Mar 29
Friday, Day 89

Curated by:

Zenit-4 Missions

This was the second of the original Korolyov Zenits, carring different cameras and equipment to the Zenit-2. While Zenit-t was designed for area surveys, Zenit-4 was designed for close-look photography. Zenit-4 It was originally designated Vostok-4 but the name was changed to differentiate it from the piloted spacecraft.

One mission is specifically of note - Cosmos 309 (1969-098A/4223) was the only Zenit-2 to carry a Nauka module, a device designed to fly on the Zenit-2M. There does not seem to be any explanation in the puiblic domain as to why this was.
